WHOEVER CONTROLS THE ECONOMIC NARRATIVE CONTROLS EVERYTHING

The "economic narrative" is the story that describes how the economy works, and how wealth is created. This story dictates almost every decision that is taken in government, so if we want to change the way the government operates we have to change that narrative first.

The current narrative says that creating wealth is the same as acquiring money, so the economic system is calibrated to encourage people to acquire as much money as possible. And since the easiest way for people to acquire more money is to invest the money they already have, this system hugely favours the already-rich by making them richer.

This has bonkers consequences, both for people and the environment.

It explains why climate change is so difficult to fix and why Britain, the 6th richest country in the world, has millions of children living in poverty, working families dependent on food banks and public services such as health and education that are massively underfunded.

Bonkers Economics is dedicated to retelling the economic narrative in a different way. According to this new narrative, money is not a product of wealth-creation, but an essential input or tool that makes real wealth-creation possible. Like rain, money does more good the more evenly and reliably it falls. This means that more real wealth is created when money is distributed as widely as possible. And since the government creates and distributes all money, the decisions it takes will change dramatically when this new narrative is accepted.
